About the Artist

Christine Sui-Yee Hwang is a Canadian born Chinese visual artist. Her approach to art production merges theory with practice. The cultivation of human compassion and broad social/environmental concerns are the driving forces behind her art. Subtle Buddhist undertones are found throughout her work as she believes strongly in helping others. She sees her artwork as a tool for communication - one which has the potential to encourage progressive discussions on the topic of human existence, coping, pain, and suffering.

Currently, Christine is a student of the Feng Shui Research Center, founded by World renowned Feng Shui Master Joseph Yu B.Sc. (www.Astro-FengShui.com) She has successfully completed beginner and intermediate level training under one of the FSRC's Senior Feng Shui practitioners and lecturers Teresa Hwang (www.TeresaHwang.com). Aspiring to become a Feng Shui practitioner herself, Christine is working towards expanding her Feng Shui training and knowledge in the months and years to come. Successfully integrating her fine arts/visual arts training with Feng Shui principles and practice is one of her ultimate goals.

For five years Christine had extensive fine arts and cultural theory training at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. She completed her Diploma in Fine Art in 2002 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a Major in Visual Art in 2003. Her formal training spans many mediums: painting, drawing, black and white photography, sculpture, multimedia installation, computer graphics/design, sound design, and her most concentrated medium: traditional printmaking (woodcut relief, stone lithography, intaglio, and silk screen/screen-printing.) In addition, Christine is self-taught in the area of sewing, leather work, and garment construction. Her clothing designs and accessories have been/are carried by independent clothing stores located in Vancouver.
